The Batliwalas (Royal Challengers Bangalore)
Thursday, May 7, 2009
Royal Challengers Bangalore lost everything last year. They couldn't even manage The Wooden Spoon. They were criticized for being a test team. Their owner the flamboyant Dr. Mallya was not impressed either. He set out to change this perception and was very happy with what he achieved. And Lo and behold they have started performing this year. They currently are 5th placed team with a more than realistic chance of making it to the semifinal.
Dr. Mallya is an astute businessman and he must have done something right. Lets analyze the performance of his new entrants this year.
Mr. err Dr. Malaya how is this possible. All your star picked have failed spectacularly. Yet you are performing well this year. So who are the guys who are performing.
Are they not the same guys who you criticized for your defeat last year. If not for the three year contract you would have sold all of them off. Yet if you are performing this year it is because of these guys. Old is not necessarily bad and you must know this better than anyone else. Old Wine anyone...
Another point of interest is that while Peterson was captain Bangalore won only 2 of its 6 matches one of them against the whipping boys aka KnightRiders while when Kumble became captain they have won both their games. So Firangi hain to behtar hain also doesn't work. SRK should take note of this.
Moral of the Story: Instead of getting a new team get a new set of friends
PS: Shouldn't it be Bengaluru instead of Bangalore?
